Marcus Stroman named Blue Jays’ Opening Day starter

Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo joins Blair and Brunt to discuss his decision to name Marcus Stroman opening day starter, and how he sees the rest of the rotation lining up behind him.

Marcus Stroman will get the ball to start the 2019 Toronto Blue Jays season.

Scheduled for a March 28 contest against the Detroit Tigers at Rogers Centre, this is the second time in Stroman’s career he has been named the opening-day starter.

Stroman previously got the prestigious distinction back in 2016.

The 27-year-old is coming off an injury-plagued 2018 campaign that saw him put up a career-worst 5.54 ERA in just 102.1 innings pitched over 19 starts.

The current plan for the Blue Jays rotation is for Matt Shoemaker, Aaron Sanchez, Ryan Borucki and Clayton Richard to follow Stroman, according to manager Charlie Montoyo.

Montoyo added that the newly signed Clay Buchholz will not be ready for the start of the season as he didn’t arrive in spring training until March 5.
